Quezon City is the former capital and most populous city in the Philippines. The city is found on Luzon Island and is now one of the cities and municipalities that make up Metro Manila. It was named after Manuel L. Quezon, the former president of the Commonwealth of the Philippines. Quezon City served as the capital of the Philippines between 1946 - 1972 and many of the government offices are still located here.
Quezon City - Tourist Attractions
Some of the main sights and attractions found in Luzon City include:- Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife - zoological and botanical garden found near Quezon Memorial City with a man-made lagoon.
- Santo Domingo Church - important church housing a famous statue of 'Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, said date from the 17th century.
- San Pedro Bautista - one of the oldest churches in the Philippines and contains the bones of Pedro Bausta, with catacombs in the basement where the friars were buried.
- Museo ng Buhay Pilipino(Life of a Filipino Museum) - museum with furnishings, tools, and implements used by Filipinos in the past .
- La Loma Cockpit - one of the biggest cock-fighting (sabong) pits arena in the Philippines.
- Tomas Morato and Timog Avenue Tourist Belt Area - full of restaurants, bars, clubs, shops and other entertainment places.
- Goethe Institute Art Gallery - gallery containing some early to mid-19th century Philippine art works.
- Fiesta Carnival Complex - family entertainment and amusement park with various rides and side shows
- Quezon Memorial Circle - A national park and shrine bounded by the Elliptical Roada mausoleum containing the remains of Manuel L. Quezon, the second President of the Philippines, in the middle.
- La Mesa Eco Park - beautiful eco park covering 5 hectares on the outskirts of Quezon city. A haven for people who'd like to get away from the heat and dust of the city.
