Spencer Street Bridge in Melbourne crosses the Yarra River to the west of the CBD. It is a traffic and tram bridge, that links Spencer Street on the north with Clarendon street on the south bank. Spencer St Bridge stands between Kings Street Bridge and Charles Grimes Bridge. On the north bank are the Melbourne World Trade Center and Batman Park and Heliport. On the southern bank are the Crown Entertainment Complex which contains a casino and cinema, and the Melbourne Convention Centre. There is a ferry stop in front of the Convention Centre.
Spencer Street Bridge was built in 1930. Construction was upheld for the removal of a stump of a red gum tree which was discovered 20m below sea level. This tree stump was dated to about 8,000 years ago, and the tree had probably lived for 400 years. It took 3 weeks to remove. The glass covered footbridge visible in the image on the far side of Spencer Street Bridge was built in 1998 to link the World Trade Centre with the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. The cruise boat seen in the panorama probably departed from Federation Wharf.
