Sigyn Tall Ship is berthed here at the Forum Marinum in Varvintori, a district of Turku in Finland.
Sigyn is a three masted Barque ship, built of wood in 1887 in Gothenburg, Sweden. She sailed under a Swedish flag as a cargo ship to Canada, South America and Africa. She later served on Baltic transport routes carrying timber. She is 46.2 meters long, 9.3 meters wide, has a draft of 3.7 meters and a mast height of 32 meters.
In 1939, she became a museum ship. In 1993, restoration and preservation works began on her by the Sigyn owners and Forum Marinum, the national maritime and naval history museum. As well as Sigyn, the Forum Marinum also is home to Suomen Jousten, a full-rigged ship and to the minelayer Keihassalmi amongst others. Guided tours are available and visitors are welcome.
