Guipúzcoa, or Gipuzkoa, is the smallest region in the autonomous Basque Country on the northern coast of Spain. Surrounding the region are the neighbouring provinces of Vizcaya (Biscay), Navarre and Alava. At only 1,980 kmē (764 sq mi) it is the smallest province in Spain. Approx a quarter of the population of Guipuzcoa live in the historic coastal town of San Sebastián. Other important towns are Irun, Errenteria, Zarautz, Arrasate, Oņati , Eibar, Tolosa, Beasain, Pasaia and Hondarribia.
The warm Gulf Stream and wet Atlantic climate with a high rainfall have made Guipuzcoa into a lusciously vegetated, dark green landscape set against the churning blue seas of the Bay of Biscay. Known for the many panoramic viewpoints and beaches along the 92Km of coastline, the colours of nature make Guipuzcoa picturesque. With many rivers and forests, Guipuzcoa is a popular tourist destination to enjoy outdoor activities such a fishing, walking, hiking, cycling, trekking and of course photography.
