California's oldest cathedral, Old St Mary's, ministers to the heart of Chinatown and is so established in the Chinese community, it was even built of brick and granite quarried in China. Built and dedicated in 1854, rebuilt in 1909 after destruction in the 1906 earthquake, Old St Mary's Cathedral church is a registered historical landmark. Yet while Old St Mary's is a beloved part of San Francisco's history, it remains as it began, ministering to the local community and beyond with outreach programmes. Visitors are welcomed.
