Rotte near Oberwald - Further Information

Rotte river is near Oberwald, a village in the Obergoms which is in the Swiss canton of Valais (Wallis).

This narrow valley known as the Grimsel Pass has been forged out by a river of melt-water sourced high in the Valais mountains west of the Furkapass and Belvedere where the Rhone is also sourced. The Rhone Glacier still exists but as it is diminishing rapidly, its melt-water is feeding the young Rhone. The Rotte river continues on to flow into Lake Geneva (Lac Léman).

Scenic and beautiful, in summertime this valley is a tranquil place to relax or an exciting place for outdoors sports such as mountain-biking, trekking, hiking and walking.
