Google Map Washington SquarePhotographer Description of Washington SquarePanorama of Washington Square in San Francisco. Through the trees to the north you can see the facade of the Saints Peter and Paul Church. The famous Coit Tower is just visible through the trees beyond the eastern end of Washington Square.Washington Square - Further InformationWashington Square lies on Columbus Avenue, mid-way between Fisherman's Wharf and Broadway (near Embarcadero piers), just north of China Town.Likened to a green oasis, Washington Square is a rare outdoor parkland space in the center of the most densely-populated and highly developed area of San Francisco. Prized by the local community, this 1955 park quickly became a favoured place to gather for events, for socialising and for celebrations. Although just a rectangular square of grass lined with trees, what makes this park so special is that it is found at the convergence between so many great and indeed diverse neighbourhoods. Thus it is accessible to large number of people and a great central meeting spot for locals or for visitors exploring the surrounding neighbourhoods. The Italian and Chinese districts are nearby where you can visit Cafe Zoetrope or China Town for a flavour of both cultures and cuisines. The Chestnut Street shopping district is also just a few blocks walk to the north. Indeed a welcome oasis in which to relax amidst the hustle and bustle of a vibrant city.
