North University Community Branch Library - San Diego visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'North University Community Branch Library' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from California.
North University Community Branch Library in San Diego, California was opened in late 2007. An ambitious project costing $7.9million, the 16,000 ft-sq design is dynamic yet harmonizes with the surrounding environmental elements. Geological features from rock, fossils and mineral formations echo the natural features of the buildings location and are intended to create an area atmospherically conducive to learning and contemplation.
Visitors are greeted by a large sculpture named "Sprout" which represents foliage, and another made of steel pods which represents the structure of DNA. Roof windows bathe the interior in diffused daylight and the decor has been chosen to compliment the colours found in nature around the Park. The Library includes a state-of-the-art computer lab, community meeting rooms with audio-visual equipment, a bookstore, a large area for children and a courtyard area outdoors which provides a relaxing setting for reading, with panoramic views out over Noble Athletic Park and the canyon.
