Panorama of the southern section of Takapuna Beach. The panorama, shot on a sunny summer day, shows the view along the coast and out into the bay. Rangitoto Island, an extinct volcano, can clearly be seen rising from Auckland Harbour. This is one of several Hauraki Gulf islands, and the most popular with tourists.

Takapuna Beach is probably one of the most popular beaches on North Shore in Auckland. It is a long, sandy, east facing beach that lines the front of Takapuna. Close to the beach are numerous shops, restaurants and bars that cater for the beach holiday trade. Takapuna Beach has good facilities, a large boat launch and picnic areas. The headland to the north encircles another volcanic crater, now filled with water to form Lake Pupuke
Other beaches in the area include Narrow Neck Beach and Cheltenham Beach, which are found further south on North Shore towards Devonport and North Head. The Takapuna Tourist Information Centre nearby can provide visitors with information about the hotels, sights and attractions in the area.
