The Rama VIII bridge is about 2.5km long, including the approach spans. The single supporting tower stands on the western side of the Chao Phraya River, and from here a series of golden coloured cables support the carriageway below.
The bridge has become a very recognizeable part of the Bangkok skyline and a tourist attraction in it's own right. From the center of the bridge there area good panoramic views over the city. The Rama VIII bridge is so popular that it has featured on the back of Thailand's 20 baht bank note.
