Wat Benjamabophit - Grounds - FURTHER INFORMATION
Wat Benjamabophit - Grounds - Bangkok visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Wat Benjamabophit - Grounds' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Central Thailand.
Wat Benjamabophit is the newest temple to be built in Bangkok, and one of the most unusual. The main compound and ubosot (bot) of Wat Benjamabophit is made of white marble, and thus the Wat is also known among tourists as the Marble Temple. Inside the ubosot of Wat Benjamabophit is a bronze copy of the Phra Buddha Chinnarat image found in the city of Phitsanulok in Northern Thailand.
Within the grounds of the temple is a canal that separates the living quarters of the monks from the temple proper. Turtles that have been released by worshipers seeking merit live in this canal.
Wat Benjamabophit is on Thanon Sri Ayutthaya, close to the Statue of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), Chitrlada Palace, Dusit Zoo and the Royal Turf Club . The temple and grounds were renovated by King Rama V (Chulalongkorn). Unlike most other Wats in Bangkok, the grounds of Wat Benjamabophit are quite spacious with some large open areas such as the one shown here.
