Vigo is the largest city in Galicia and the largest non-capital city in Spain. A metropolitan city in the far north west of Spain, Vigo is known for being the largest fishing port in Europe, for extensive ship-building, car manufacturing and seafaring industries and for it's culture and nightlife.

At the center of the city is a hill fort which dates back to Roman times. As a major coastal city, Vigo has a colourful history having been attacked many times by invading forces. Today the urban city extends far beyond the original fortress walls and has become an attractive cosmopolitan city. Vigo is better known for it's industry than for tourism but it caters very well for visitors, both as a vibrant city and being set on a scenic coastline with plenty of quiet coves and dramatic cliff top viewpoints. Sailing along the coast or even across this broad and busy harbour is a fun activity.
