The Castle of Turku - FURTHER INFORMATION
The Castle of Turku - Turku visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'The Castle of Turku' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Turunmaa saaristo.
This panorama shows Turku Castle in Turku, Finland. Turku Castle dates from 1280-1310, thus the castle is about 700 years old. At that time the water level around the castle was about 3m higher and the castle sat on an island. Today Turku Castle serves as a culturally historical tourism attraction, and contains a museum about the history of the region around Turku.
Turku Castle is in two parts - the medieval fortress or 'keep' and the Renaissance 'bailey', the surrounding residential palatial rooms. This panorama was taken in the central courtyard ideally showing the central 'keep' which was used as a stronghold in times of conflict, and the whitewashed walls of the 'bailey' which comprise the surrounding parts of Turku Castle.
The castle is also one terminal point on the Ox Road, an ancient trading route which extended from Turku Castle through into Koroinen in Sweden.
