Panorama of Cathedral Beach on the Merced River in Yosemite National Park. Here the Merced River winds it's way through the bottom of Yosemite Valley. On the other side of the river the panorama shows the peak of El Capitan, a popular climbing face and dramatic mountain. This panorama was taken in late spring, and there are still some last patches of snow protected by the shadows of the cliffs.

The Merced River follows a path along the bottom of Yosemite Vallyey in Yosemite National Park. Along the way there are numerous picnic areas along the banks of the river and set in the woods. Some, like Cathedral Beach, offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains like El Capitan. Further upstream, towards Yosemite Village, are Sentinel Beach and the Swinging Bridge.
