Panorama of Emerald Pool on the Merced River in Yosemite National Park. The panorama was taken on an overcast spring day in 2008, there was still some snow on the ground and it had begun to rain. This was as far up the trail as I got on that day.

Emerald Pool is at the top of Vernal Fall in Yosemite National Park. The Merced River flows into the Emerald Pool on the way down from Nevada Fall and then plunges over a near-100m drop before continuing down to Happy Isles and the base of Yosemite Valley. The image also shows Mt Broderick, Half Dome and Liberty Cap in the background.

The trailhead for Vernal Fall starts at Happy Isles. It can be accessed by free bus from Yosemite Village. The loop road to Happy Isles is only open to the bus, bicycles or disabled vehicles. The nearest public car park is near Curry Village, and from there you must walk in.
