Panorama of Bass Lake taken from a picnic and recreation area on the south side of the lake. This panorama was taken very late on a spring day and the sun had already dipped behind the trees. The picture shows a view along the still waters of Bass Lake, whose north side is still in sunlight while the southern side is in shadow.

Bass Lake is a large fresh water lake created by a 145 food dam across Crane Valley. It is 8 miles from Oakhurst and 14 miles from the southern entrance to Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada mountains of California. This is a popular tourist spot where fishing, swimming, water skiing, and use of personal watercraft are popular. There are numerous picnic areas around the lake and it is lined with houses, hotels apartments and resorts, particularly on the north side near the Oakhurst end. There are also several camping sites around Bass Lake managed by USFS.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
From Oakhurst take the 41 north towards Yosemite National Park. Turn left onto the rd222 Bass Lake Road just before Yosemite Forks. Follow the rd222 which becomes South Shore Road. This recreation area is a little past Crane Valley Road (rd426) on the shores of the lake.
