This bridge crosses France's A13 Autoroute de Normandie at the Vironvey service station, a convenient first stop for petrol after leaving the ferry terminal at Cherbourg, and an interesting design which was well worth photographing.

Considering it is the main motorway route from Cherbourg to Paris, the road was almost deserted as you can see, and a pleasure to use compared with England's motorways.

The eye catching red, white and blue colours of the drapeau tricolore French flag have transformed this motorway bridge into a striking piece of architecture. The various beams of the support structure have been brightly painted so as you walk across this glass-sided bridge and look out, the sky is full of bright colours. It changes an ordinary bridge into a pleasing and welcome sight - no doubt appreciated by patriotic drivers as much as it is enjoyed as an unexpected pleasure to brighten up an otherwise dull motorway drive.
