Viseu - FURTHER INFORMATION
Viseu - Viseu visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Viseu' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Beira Interior.
Viseu province in Portugal's central Beira Interior region is the only region which has neither a land border with Spain nor a sea coast. This central region is mountainous and blessed with wilderness areas of extensive forests, snow-capped peaks on craggy granite mountains, luscious green valleys with colourful wild flower meadows and flourishing wildlife. Places such as these put the 'great' into Great Outdoors with excellent nature reserve parkland areas for recreation and exploring the best of nature. Hiking, climbing, camping, mountain biking - extensive trail and path networks cross the area. In some places, the mountain peaks near vast open plains are found to be ideal for air sports such as hand gliding.
Many small towns and villages surround the central parkland area and these offer accommodation and amenities for visitors. Viseu city has around 50,000 residents and is a charming ancient city with fortifications, medieval buildings, a fascinating history and vibrant culture.
