Bournemouth is most famous for both the Pier and Bournemouth Beach. The current pier stretches some 300m into the sea from the Pier approach plaza, lined with various tourist attractions and fairground rides. Thousand of visitors flock to the beach in the summer months, one of the main attractions in Bournemouth, and a promenade along the back of the beach runs east past and a fair distance to Hengistbury Head. To the west, the promenade runs past Alum Chine and numerous other chines before reaching Sandbanks Beach in Poole
