This panorama shows the Mondego River and surrounding hills close to Torres do Mendego. The Mendego River begins and ends in Portugal, and is the longest river that runs solely through this country. The river source is in the Serra da Estrela in Gouveia municipality and it runs west entering the Atlantic Ocean next to Figueira da Foz. Along the way, the Mondego River winds through spectacular countryside and numerous historic towns. At Torres do Mondego there is a small beach which is popular with local people. As can be seen in this image, it is possible to kayak on the river.
