The Colchester's War Memorial is reputed to be one of the finest memorials to the First World War in England. The 28 foot high memorial stands on Colchester High Street, near entrance to the Colchester Castle Museum and Castle Park. The memorial was by HC Fehr in 1919 who won a competition set by the Royal Academy. It is made from fine Whitbed Portland stone and granite, topped by Victory and flanked by figures of St George and and Peace.
