Shell Bay Boat Yard Jetty - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Panorama overlooking Poole Harbour taken from the jetty of the Shell Bay Boatyard. The picture was taken in September 2008, late in the afternoon while waiting to catch the Sandbanks Ferry. You can see the harbour entrance to the right of the jetty. Beyond the end of the jetty is Brownsea Island. This was not the most stable of platforms from which to take pictures.

Shell Bay Boat Yard Jetty - FURTHER INFORMATION

Shell Bay Boat Yard Jetty - Swanage visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Shell Bay Boat Yard Jetty' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Dorset.

The Shell Bay Boatyard is very close to the Sandbanks Ferry slipway, next to Shell Bay Beach. It is a quiet boatyard with launch facilities and a small cafe. The waters here are very shallow at low tide, and currents through the harbour entrance are very fast when the tide flows. All the water draining from Poole Harbour as the tide goes out must pass through the narrow channel between and Shell Bay. A short walk along the coast is Bramble Bush Bay.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE

Shell Bay Boatyard is on Ferry Road, near to the Sandbanks Chain Ferry terminal next to Shell Bay Beach. There is limited free parking alongside the road, or paid parking in the National Trust car park. There is no parking at the cafe.
