Lyndhurst - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
A panorama showing a part of Lyndhurst in the New Forest. The panorama was taken from the side of the steep hill leading up to a church. The main road through the town is very narrow and gets very busy both in the rush hour and during high tourist season in the summer.
Lyndhurst - FURTHER INFORMATION

Lyndhurst is the largest village within the New Forest in Hampshire. It is often referred to as either the 'Heart of the New Forest' or the 'Capital of the New Forest'. The village is very old, with written records dating back to 980. Over the years, especially after the establishment of the New Forest as a Royal hunting ground, Lyndhurst often hosted visiting royalty. Today the Court of Verderers, which oversees the New Forest, meets monthly in the Queen's House.
Lyndhurst contains the church of St. Michael & All Angels, the burial place of Alice Liddell, also known as Alice Hargreaves, the inspiration for Alice in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Nearby is Knightwood Oak, the largest and oldest tree in the New Forest.
Lyndhurst is at the convergence point of most of the roads that pass through the New Forest. The town is very picturesque, and popular with tourists visting the area. It therefore contains numerous restaurants, cafes, galleries, hotels, B&B's and other businesses that cater for the holiday industry. The main Tourist Information Centre for the New Forest is located here. However, the narrow streets do not cope well with the volume of traffic passing through at high season.
