The current building of the Church of St Michael and All Angels in Lyndhurst in Hampshire dates from 1860. It is thought that a church has been on this site since 980 at a time when Lyndhurst belonged to Amesbury Abbey in Wiltshire. The church is an active place of worship and is becoming something of a tourist attraction due to it's association with Alice in Wonderland. The remains of Alice Liddell, who was the inspiration for the character of Alice by Lewis Carroll, lie within the graveyard.
