Richmond - Further Information

Richmond is the main 'village' in Richmond Upon Thames borough of London. Richmond was so named in 1501 when Henry VII built a palace here. It has gradually been absorbed into London as the city expanded, but has thankfully preserved many of the open spaces.

Richmond is probably best known for being close to both Richmond Park, the largest urban park in England, the Old Deer Park and Kew Gardens. The center of the town is surrounded by other, smaller, open spaces like Terrace Gardens, Terrace Field, Richmond Green and Buccleugh Gardens. The high streets of Richmond are lined with fashionable boutique shops as well as the usual high street names, and many bars, caffes and restaurants. Richmond lies on the banks of the River Thames, and both Richmond Bridge and Twickenham Bridge cross the river here. The banks of the river provide beautiful promenades while various boats, rowing boats and kayaks use the river.
