St Paul's Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral for the Diocese of Dunedin in New Zealand. The first church was built here in 1862, and called St Paul's Church. The cathedral was proposed in 1876, but it was not until 1915 that both the site and funds were secured and the foundation stone of the new cathedral was laid. St Paul's Cathedral was consecrated in 1919. The cathedral stands on the northwestern side of the Octagon.
St Paul's Cathedral is a neo-Gothic cathedral built almost entirely of Oamaru stone. It has a magnificent vaulted roof and large stained glass windows which were designed and built in London. Marble for the aisle was imported from Italy during WWI. The most important and impressive window is the World War I Memorial Window which contains eight panels each showing an angel. The theme of this window is 'Through sacrifice and death — to victory and peace'.
