Anzac Square lies to the southeast of the Octagon in Dunedin, in front of the Dunedin Railway Station (the black and white building that lines the eastern side of the square). The square was redeveloped in the 1990s to create a knot garden (a very formal garden in a square frame with a variety or aromatic plants and cooking herbs). The square commemorates the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps, (the ANZACs), who fought during WWI. At the northern end of the square is a plaque commemorating the recipients from New Zealand of the Victoria Cross.
