The railway platform of Dunedin Railway Station, in Dunedin, is 1km long and the longest railway platform in New Zealand. From here the famous and very popular Taieri Gorge Railway service departs daily. Down the track is an historic footbridge across the railway lines that was damaged in a freak accident in February 2008.
