The Otago Settlers Museum contains exhibits about the history of the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. It is situated in Dunedin a short distance from the Dunedin Railway Station and the Octagon. This is the largest and most extensive historic museum in New Zealand and was founded in 1898, on the 50th anniversary of the Scottish settlement of Otago.
Popular exhibits include the E class Fairlie steam locomotive Josephine, which is the oldest restored steam locomotive in New Zealand. The museum also contains the JA 1274 engine which served from 1956 to 1971.
