Beresford Railway Siding ruins - FURTHER INFORMATION
Beresford Railway Siding ruins - Oodnadatta Track visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Beresford Railway Siding ruins' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from South Australia.
The old Bersford railway siding had an elevated cast iron water tank for re-watering trains, a small stone fettlers accommodation building, a water supply dam, and giant water softeners to prepare water pumped from deep underground bores for the steam locomotive. Kennjcott water softeners were used to remove harmful minerals from the bore water that caused heavy scaling on the boilers of the steam trains.
The site has been well conserved since the railway closed and most features are in basically good condition. Beresford RS has become a favoured overnight stop for campers along the Oodnadatta Track.
How to get there:
Car: Beresford RS is located on the Oodnadatta Track 50.4km from William Creek towards Coward Springs
