The Fortune Theatre Company was founded in the early 1970's and after much searching based itself at the far end of the Atheneum Library in a cine club theatrette. The Fortune Theater then moved to it's current site in the old Trinity Methodist Church in 1978, which is registered as a Class 'B' historic building.
The Fortune Theatre stands a short distance north of the Octagon in Dunedin.
