Trail to Lovers Leap - FURTHER INFORMATION
Trail to Lovers Leap - Otago Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Trail to Lovers Leap' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Otago.
Lovers Leap and the Chasm are dramatic cliff notches cut into basalt on the southern side of the Otago Peninsula. They lie on a hiking trail that traverses Sandymount and ends up at Sandfly Bay. This trail can be very slippery when wet, and the cliffs have a 200m drop into the sea. The weather here can change and close in very quickly, but walkers are rewarded with dramatic views. There are fenced off lookouts at the tops of both the Chasm and Lovers Leap.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
From Dunedin the two main routes to the peninsula are clearly marked. For Sandymount take the Highcliff Road and then Sandymount Road to parking near the end.
