Hoopers Inlet from the Chasm Trail - FURTHER INFORMATION
Hoopers Inlet from the Chasm Trail - Otago Peninsula visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Hoopers Inlet from the Chasm Trail' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Otago.
Hoopers Inlet lies on the southern side of the Otago Peninsula near the eastern end. This large inlet is best viewed from on high, and one such place is the trail that leads to the Chasm and Lovers Leap near to Sandfly Bay. The land here is used for sheep grazing. From this vantage point you can see most of Hoopers Inlet. A narrow neck of land at the northeastern end separates Hoopers Inlet from Papanui Inlet. A road proceeds along this land passage round Hoopers Inlet to Allan Beach which is at the entrance of the inlet with the sea. Behind this is Cape Saunders. All of this land is made of basalt rock and is volcanic in origin.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
From Dunedin the two main routes to the peninsula are clearly marked. For Sandymount take the Highcliff Road and then Sandymount Road to parking near the end.
