Mostar - FURTHER INFORMATION
Mostar - Mostar visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Mostar' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Herzegovina.
Mostar is the largest and most important city in the Herzegovina region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the fifth largest city in the country. Mostar is built along the banks of the Neretva river and was named after the historic bridge that spanned the river (Bosnian, Croatian and Serbian: 'Stari Most').
Mostar is an historic medievil town with records dating back beyond the 15C. The most important landmark of the city was the historic bridge with towers at either end. Sadly, the bridge was destroyed during the Bosnian War in 1993 but a new bridge in the same style has been built on site and opened in 2008. Mostar suffered greatly during the recent Bosnian War and is now recovering with extensive repair and redevelopment.
Mostar is an important tourism destination in Bosnia and Herzegovina and has an international airport. Nearby is Međugorje, a Catholic pilgrimage site.
