Caroline Bay in Timaru has been a favorite of locals for over 100 years, who flock here to enjoy the sandy beach and safe swimming. Every year the town holds a 3 week carnival on Caroline Bay, running over the Christmas -New Year period. This carnival attracts visitors form all over New Zealand, with free concerts, fair ground rides and other activites. On 31 December the carnival welcomes the New Year with the Monster Pub Charity Fireworks Display.

Caroline Bay lies to the left of the harbour wall. Nearby is Caoline Bay Park and the famous Trevor Griffiths Rose Garden.
