Blackhead Beach lies south of Dunedin in Otago on the South Island of New Zealand. It is named after Blackhead, a headland of black basalt volcanic rock laid down about 10 million years ago and the site of Blackhead Quarry. Blackhead Beach is popular with surfers and a rest stop for cyclists exploring the surrounding country side. The beach has no amenities of facilities.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
From Dunedin follow signs for St Clair Park on Middleton Road. This becomes Blackhead Road, which continues to Blackhead. On the way the road passes a turnoff for Tunnel Beach. Blackhead is about 9km from the center of Dunedin.
