Sierra Brava Lake (Embalse de Sierra Brava) is a new lake created by a dam. It lies in the eastern side of Badajoz province of Extremadura in Spain. The resulting reservoir flooded old olive groves. It is stocked with carp and some of the largest carp in Spain have been caught here. Because of this Sierra Brava is becoming increasingly popular with agling and fishing holidays, both nationally and internationally. In the winter time the lake is home to over 120,000 migratory birds, and has therefore become an attraction for bird watchers too.
Embalse de Sierra Brava dam is at the southern end of the lake, close to El Herradero and Madrigalejo. The towns of Zorita and Alcollarin are also nearby up the western flank of the lake. These towns provide some small hotels and other accommodation for anglers. To the north and east Embalse de Sierra Brava is surrounded by sparsely populated hills.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
