Glenorchy-Paradise Track - FURTHER INFORMATION
Glenorchy-Paradise Track - Glenorchy visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Glenorchy-Paradise Track' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Otago.
The Glenorchy-Paradise Track leads from Glenorchy at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu along the Dart River past Diamond Lake and Paradise to trailheads for some of the Great Walks of New Zealand.
The Great Walks trail heads here are for Routeburn, Rees-Dart and Greenstone-Caples Tracks. Routeburn is said to be only eclipsed by the Milford Sound Track, crossing the Humboldt Range and passing through deep river valleys, dense forest and past plunging waterfalls. The hardest of all the tracks is the Rees-Dart Track which passes over a mountain range east of Paradise anding up at the Rees River in neighbouring Rees Valley.
Paradise and the surrounding region was made famous as a film location for part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It was the filming location for Lothlorien, the Battle of Amon Hen, Orthanc, and Isengard.
