Izola - FURTHER INFORMATION

Izola is a small port town on the Adriatic Sea in southwest Slovenia on the Istrian peninsula, close to the borders of both Italy and Coratia. The town's name comes from the Italian 'Isola' meaning 'island'.
Izola dates from Roman times, when the town stood on an island, and some of the Roman port, pier and jetty remain. Today it is still an active fishing port and the first fish canning plant on the Adriatic coast was built here. In recent years, Izola has become increasingly popular as a seaside resort, with a lovely beach and an increasing number of hotels, restaurants and cafes to cater for visitors.
