Shotover River is a popular tourist attraction close to Queenstown. running through stunning scenery on its path from the Southern Alps to the Kawarau River, white water rafting and jet boat trips on the river are popular. This fast flowing river runs through narrow canyons and gorges like Skippers Canyon. Regular thrill rides on the Shotover Jet depart from a jetty on Queenstown Beach. These power around Queenstown Gardens and up the Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu and then into Sotover River and under the Old Shotover Bridge. The boats dodge canyons and rocky outcrops on one of the most thrilling rides in the region.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Car: Lower Shotover is on Highway 6, about 9km east of Queenstown. Queenstown is about 280km from Dunedin on the 8 and 6 Highways. It is about 65km from Wanaka.
Flight: Queenstown Airport has scheduled flights to Auckland, Christchurch and Sydney year-round and Wellington, Melbourne and Brisbane seasonally.
