Panorama taken from the top of Rock Peak. This image was taken on a cloudless summer morning and shows the surrounding mountains. Clouds were beginning to come in from the north, and can be seen as a white line in the panorama. This was the leading edge of a cyclone.

Rock Peak is about 1480m above sea level, overlooking Roadmans Gully and the surrounding mountains. Other peaks visible form Rock Peak include Mount Hocken, Mount Allen, Quartz Knoll and Fox's Gully. At the top of Rock Peak is a weather station. To the south lies Mount Malcolm and the river valley along which the Kawarau River runs having drained out of Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown. This river continues east to Cromwell where it joins the Clutha River course part way down Lake Dunstan at Cromwell Gorge.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
An hour walk along a trail from a parking lot by Crown Range Road, about 29km north of Queenstown and 40km south of Wanaka.
