The road over Crown Ranges Pass is the highest sealed road in New Zealand. As the name suggests, it is the pass through the Crown Range Mountains. To the north the Crown Range Road descends down to Cardrona Valley, following the path of the Cardrona River to Wanaka at the southern end of Lake Wanaka. To the west, the road descends to Arrow Junction where it joins Highway 6 and continues west to Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.
Near the top of the pass is a car park and trail head for some of the surrounding walks including Rock Peak. This is a popular rest stop for motorists as there is a stunning views south from here towards Queenstown.
