Cardrona River - FURTHER INFORMATION
Cardrona River - Central Otago visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Cardrona River' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Otago.
The Cardrona River drains north from the Crown Ranges towards Lake Wanaka. It is the first tributary of the Clutha River, draining into it just south of Lake Wanaka. The small settlement of Cardrona is pat way along the valley. There was some gold mining in Cardrona Valley, but it was unprofitable. Some of the history is on display at the Cardrona Hotel.
Alogside the Cardrona River is the Cardrona Valley Road which runs south from Wanaka up the valley into the mountains. It becomes the Crown Range Road, passing through the Crown Range Pass near Rock Peak, and then descending down to Arrow Junction and Queenstown. This is a beautiful road and valley are an attractive alternative route from Wanaka to Queensland from the 6 Highway.
