The Crown Range mountains lie between Wanaka and Queenstown in New Zealand. The mountain range is known for two things, skiing at the Cardrona Alpine Resort on the slopes of Cardrona Mountain, and the Crown Range Road, which traverses the Crown Range Pass and is the highest sealed road in New Zealand. Just east of Arrow Junction the road ascends the mountains via a series of challenging and severe hairpin-bends. There is a lookout at the top of these bends giving a good view towards over Arrow Junction and Lake Hayes to Queenstown. On a good day you can just see the southern end of Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu in the distance.
The Crown Range Road is one of the most difficult roads in New Zealand, and popular as a scenic alternative to the 6 Highway between Queenstown and Wanaka.
