Haast-Jackson Bay Road in Flood - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken of the Haast-Jackson Bay Road shortly after a cyclone had passed over the West Coast and moved inland. After 25 hours of torrential rain, the area was beginning to recover from flooding which had closed the road. This panorama, taken late in the afternoon, shows the clearing skies and a car passing through the floodwaters.

The Haast-Jackson Bay Road links Haast with the Haast Beach settlement and Jacksons's Bay on the West Coast of New Zealand. The road runs through very flat and low lying terrain, which can be prone to flooding at times. Lake Moeraki lies beyond the mountain visible in the north.

Road: The Haast-Jackson Bay Road leads off from Highway 6 by Haast Junction. Haast is about 140km north of Wanaka and 120 km from Fox Glacier.
