Waterfall at Franz Josef Glacier - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
The trail to the tongue of Franz Josef Glacier passes a waterfall cascading over a cliff on the northern side of the valley. This panorama shows that waterfall. The glacier can be seen to the east snaking up the mountainside. In the middle of the valley are two isolate green islands where material was not removed and flattened as the glacier grew or retreated in times past. These are now covered with plants.

The walk out to the glacier passes up the valley across a rough path that continually changes due to floods and changes in river flow. Sometimes blocks of on the path can be found, a reminder to the massive pressures and powers at work here.
