Lake Mahinapua - FURTHER INFORMATION
Lake Mahinapua - Lake Mahinapua visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Lake Mahinapua' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from West Coast.
Lake Mahinapua is a shallow lake on the West Coast of New Zealand. Once an ocean lagoon, the build up of sand dunes to the west sealed the lake off from the sea, and now Lake Mahinapua lies about 500m from the Tasman Sea. The lake is now part of the Lake Mahinapua Scenic Reserve and there are several walking tracks in the area. The campsite is near to Shanghai Bay on the western side of the lake.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Road: Lake Mahinapua is about 10km south of Hokitika, next to Ruatapu and about 120km north of Franz Josef Glacier on Highway 6. A narrow lane (Shanghai Road) leads from the highway to the camp ground and the lake.
