Moana is a small settlement on the northern shore of Lake Brunner, close to the Arnold River. It is becoming increasingly popular as a base for trout fishing and water sports on the lake. There are several boat launch sites near to Moana.
Information about Moana is most closely linked to the hotels and motels in the area. Lake Brunner is popular for brown trout fishing and various other water sports. There are numerous boat launch sites around the lake and close to Moana. Those visiting are greeted with a relaxing vista over the water to the mountain ranges on the far side. Local people are tapping into the tourist industry and a number now offer home stays or Bed & Breakfast accommodation. The Midland Line railway passes through the town and the TranzAlpine service, a tourist train, passes once daily in each direction. The line is also used for freight trains.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Road: Moana on the northern shore of Lake Brunner is about 36km from Greymouth. Take Highway 7 to Stillwater and then Arnold Valley Road south to the lake.
If travelling over Arthurs Pass on Highway 73, then turn north at Jacksons up Lake Brunner Road and follow around the lake.
