Artist's Palette is one of the main features on Walk 1 circuit at Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. The path passes through some woods to a viewing platform overlooking these thermal pool flats. The Artist's Palette is so named for the various coloured pools lying in a yellow sulphur-rich flat. Within the flat are various pools that change position and colour, often with greens and blues. One surprising feature of Artist's Palette is a bird's nest near the center. This is an active nest and from time to time birds will be seen sitting on it. Occasionally, bird tracks will be seen in the soft sulphur-coloured mud as well.
Artist's Palette is fed by water from the Champagne Pool at the far end and then over Artist's Palette. The water then flows over the Primrose Sinter Terrace Terrace flats and down to Bridal Veil Falls before continuing to Lake Ngakoro.
