Primrose Sinter Terrace at Wai-O-Tapu - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This panorama was taken from the middle of the broadwalk over the mud flats at the top of Primrose Sinter Terrace in Wai-O-Tapu. The picture was taken early on a summer morning in 2008. Steam rises slowly from various fumeroles within the mud flats, which are surrounded by trees.

Primrose Sinter Terrace and the mud flats nearby are formed by overflow from the Champagne Pools in Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland. From there the sulphur rich water first flows over Artist's Palette, depositing sulphur, and then over these flats and down Primrose Terrace, where silica is deposited to form the largest silica terraces in the Southern Hemisphere. This formations are very fragile, and may be destroyed by future volcanic activity in the area. The broadwalk across Primrose Sinster Terrace is part of the Walk 1 loop of the thermal park.
